I seldom watch broadcast TV but it seemed the last time I saw it (country motel with no other choices) it was the most inane reality TV imaginable. Perhaps the seeds were sown with the demise of the NZBC etc.
The first two years of TVOne at Avalon were very good. A huge feeling of optimism filled the place. We worked on up to 5 major productions each week. It was a huge learning curve for us and we all benefitted enormously from the constant practice of our craft.
By 1979 the cracks started to appear as Muldoon’s new broadcasting rules were brought into play.
Lots of good people left. The freewheeling spontaneous days were over.
